The Long Table

One brief, one sentence: make it feel like lunch at our place, only bigger and with better flowers. So we built the longest table we could fit on the lawn.
The garden did most of the work. We kept the palette to white and green, built the ceremony arch out of greenery cut on site that morning, and left the far end of the lawn completely empty so the old tree stayed the tallest thing in every photograph.
121 guests, one seating, no rounds. Food arrived in bowls and kept arriving. Nobody looked at their phone between courses, which is the only review of a menu that counts.
By eleven the table had been pushed aside and the same grass was a dance floor. We turned the lights down twice and nobody left until we turned them up again.
